Secret Message Maker

Write a note, pick a code and get a link. Your friend sees only the coded message and has to crack it to read what you wrote. Then they can send one back.

Choose a code

How it works

  1. Write your note. A joke, an invitation, a compliment or a clue.
  2. Pick a code. Caesar and Atbash are gentle, Morse is a classic, and binary is for friends you want to make suffer.
  3. Send the link. It works in any chat, and your friend needs no account.

The clock starts when they open it, so you can ask how long it took.

Ideas for secret messages

  • Birthday clues: send the location of a gift one coded message at a time.
  • Date invitations: "Dinner on Friday?" lands better in Morse.
  • Classroom puzzles: give each group a different code with the next clue.
  • Inside jokes: Wingdings makes everything funnier.
  • Treasure hunts: print the coded text and hide it around the house.
  • Couples: "I love you" in Morse code never gets old.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send a secret message?

Type your message, choose a code and press Create link. The link is copied for you, so paste it into a chat or a text. Your friend opens it, sees the coded message and types what it says to reveal it.

Is my message really private?

It is hidden, not secure. The message stays out of our server logs, because it is kept in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to the site. But anyone who gets the link can open it, and these codes are easy to break, so do not use it for passwords or anything sensitive.

How long can a message be?

Up to 200 characters. Short notes are more fun to crack too.

What if my friend cannot solve it?

They can open the matching translator in a new tab, paste the code in and read the message, or press Give up to reveal it straight away.

Does the link expire?

No. The whole message is inside the link, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to expire or delete. If you lose the link, the message is gone.
